Volleyball Plays Two on the Road This Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern volleyball team travels North for a pair of Southern Conference matches this weekend as GSU meets Appalachian State Saturday at 7 p.m. before taking on Davidson Monday at 6 p.m.
The Eagles (12-6, 3-1 SoCon) had a five-match win streak end at the hands of College of Charleston in their last outing a week ago but are 7-2 in their last nine and enter the weekend in second place in the SoCon South Division.
Georgia Southern is 11-29 all-time against Appalachian State (5-14, 1-4 SoCon) and lost both matches against the Mountaineers last season, including a 3-2 setback in the SoCon Tournament. Appalachian State is coming off a 3-2 loss at Western Carolina Thursday night and is 2-4 in its last six. It's the only regular-season meeting between the Eagles and Mountaineers this season.
The Eagles are 24-15 against Davidson (6-8, 2-2 SoCon) in the all-time series and have won all eight meetings against the Wildcats during GSU head coach Chad Callihan's tenure. Davidson is coming off a 3-0 home loss to College of Charleston and is 3-3 in its last six matches. The Wildcats play at Western Carolina Saturday night before facing the Eagles for the first of two regular-season matches this year.
Georgia Southern ranks 20th in the country in digs per set, averaging 17.58 as a team, and Kate Van Dyke ranks 26th in assists per set at 11.25. Meredith Paskert leads the team in kills with 215, and Moriah Bellissimo has 189. Alexandra Beecher leads the squad in digs with 321.
The Eagles return home to host a pair of SoCon matches in Hanner Fieldhouse next weekend. Georgia Southern tales on UNCG Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. and faces Elon Oct. 14, at 2 p.m.
