ELON, N.C. – Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer opened its final road swing of the 2012 regular season with a 1-0 loss at Elon on Friday night.
“We got unlucky tonight,” said head coach Lindsey Vanderspiegel. “The team played hard and looked solid for the better part of the game. We gave up an early goal off a counterattack which we just weren’t able to recover from. It was a frustrating loss because we deserved better tonight.”
Elon’s Chelsey Stark put the Phoenix up 1-0 in the 26th minute with a counterattack goal from a cross. Kimmie Krauss and Simi Dhaliwal each were credited with assists on the play.
Despite trailing 1-0 at the interval, Georgia Southern took a 4-1 lead in overall shots. In the second half, GSU out-shot Elon 5-3 to post an overall 9-4 lead in total shots. Carlee Storey took three shots for the Eagles while Nora El-Shami cracked two shots, both on frame.
Georgia Southern’s final road swing of the 2012 regular season concludes on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at UNCG.
