Track & Field Travels to Blazer Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Track & Field team continues the indoor season on Thursday and Friday with a trip to the UAB Blazer Invite. Events begin at 4 p.m. (CT) on Thursday and continue at 9 a.m. on Friday. Live results from the Blazer Invitational can be found at http://al.milesplit.info/2012/indoor/uab/.
The Eagles are coming off a third place finish in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships last February and a fifth place finish at the Outdoor Championships in 2011.
Ebony Carter (Rome, Ga.), last year's SoCon Outdoor 100m Champion, leads the sprinters to UAB this week. An All-Conference performer last season, Millicent Brooks-Millender (Douglasville, Ga.) and freshman Jasmine Walker (Fairburn, Ga.) make their debut's in the Jumps. Sophomore and school record holder Sara Curry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) leads the distance group into 2012.
Georgia Southern opened the indoor season in December at Clemson's Orange & Purple Winter Classic. Sophomore Asea Mayfield (Marietta, Ga.) placed second in the 1000m Run (3:03.20) for the high finish of the day for the Eagles. Junior Jasmine Billings (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore Stephanie Hicks (Trenton, N.J.) tied for third-place (8.76) in the 60m Hurdles while Carter ran a personal best in the 60m Dash (7.67) to finish seventh.
In field events, freshman Sara Hall (Columbia, Mo.) paced the Eagles with a third-place (12.49m42'.05") finish in the Shot Put and an eighth-place (12.81m/40'11.75") finish in the Weight Throw.
