Georgia Southern Faces South Carolina State on Friday Evening

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Women's Soccer continues its run of four-straight road games with a Friday evening contest against South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C. at 7 p.m. The Eagles (0-2-1) look for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw against Coastal Carolina last Sunday (August 28th).
Courtney Collins (Mason, Ohio) scored a goal in the 57th minute against Coastal Carolina to give the Eagles their first lead of the season. GSU's other goalscorer this season, Alex Murphy (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored in the 45th minute of the season opener against Winthrop.
Georgia Southern travels to Orangeburg, S.C. for the first time in the series. The Eagles have been victorious in the two previous meetings, winning in Statesboro by 9-0 (1999) and 4-0 (2006) margins.
South Carolina State enters the matchup with a 1-1-1 overall record and is coming off a win over Alabama State on Sunday, October 28th. The Bulldogs have been outscored 8-4 this year and are led by Kaitlynn Cortez with a goal and an assist. Darci Smith and Tori Papp have eight shots each to pace the offensive attack.
Georgia Southern travels next weekend for a pair of games against Georgia State on Friday, September 9th, at 3 p.m. and a Sunday matinee against Charleston Southern starting at 4 p.m.
