STATEBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Volleyball team led all Georgia Southern teams with a 3.46 grade point average (GPA) in the spring 2011 semester. The team tallied a 3.37 GPA for entire 2010-11 academic year and tied with the Men's Tennis program for the top GPA this year. Both the semester and end of year GPAs were program bests for the Volleyball Eagles.
Eight members of the 2010 Southern Conference Volleyball Championship team added their names to the Dean's List with GPAs of 3.5 or better in the spring semester. Three players also posted perfect 4.0 GPAs for the President's List honors in the spring.
"I am very proud of the efforts of this year's team both and off the court," said Head Volleyball Coach Chad Callihan. "This group is very driven, and it is that drive to succeed that earned them the SoCon championship in the fall. It is that same desire to be the best that has enabled this team to also excel in the classroom. They are true student-athletes and Eagle Nation should be proud of their efforts."
The 2011 spring semester was the fourth-straight semester in which the Volleyball Eagles posted a team GPA of 3.0 or better and the second-straight year that they had a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
The 2011 Volleyball season opens at home at Hanner Fieldhouse with two matches on August 26th. The first at 12 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin and the second at 7 p.m. against South Dakota State.
