Eagles Improve on Final Day of the Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Golf team posted a 2-over 290 in the final round to finish in a 12th-place tie in the 33rd Insperity Augusta State Invitational. The Eagles were paced by Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.), who shot a 3-under 69 in the final round, posting a 1-over 217 for three rounds. Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway birdied the final two holes on the final 18 holes to give the Cowboys a one-shot victory over Tennessee. Tway's play coming into the clubhouse secured him individual medalist honors, holding off Augusta State's Olle Bengtsson by five strokes with a 12-under 204 (64-69-71).
Oklahoma State, posting a 16-under 848 tournament-total at the par-72, 7,029-yard Forest Hills Golf Club, held off second-place Tennessee who recorded a 15-under 849. Clemson and Alabama finished third (-5) and fourth place (-1), respectively. Defending tournament champion Augusta State rounded out the top five with a 1-over 865.
Blondell, building off momentum from Saturday's round, moved up 16 spots to a tie for 18th-place finish at the Augusta State Invitational, his best finish at the event. Blondell opened the final round with a birdie and carded two more birdies before firing an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole to close his round. A day earlier, freshman Will Evans (McDonough, Ga.) double-eagled the same hole to become one of two players to record a double-eagle during the tournament. Evans shot 14-over for the weekend to finish in a tie for 75th place.
Florian Sander's (Bregenz, Austria) scattered two birdies on the front and back nine to clean up his scorecard for an even-par finish. Sander's finished tied for 25th place with a 2-over 218 (75-71-72). Matt Deal (Statesboro, Ga.) shaved one stroke off from his previous round, posting a 2-over 74 to finish in 72nd place.
Thomas Sharkey (Helensburgh, Scotland) concluded the tournament in 80th place. Hayden Anderson (Knoxville, Tenn.), competing as an individual, shared a 67th-place finish with four individuals after a 3-over 75 on the final 18 holes.
With the regular season concluded, Georgia Southern starts preparations for the Southern Conference Championship. The Eagles will have two weeks before traveling to Florence, S.C., for the SoCon Golf Championship April 17-19th at the Country Club of South Carolina.
