STATESBORO, Ga. - A pair of Georgia Southern Women's Soccer players, Sara Oland and Katie Merson, have earned Southern Conference All-Tournament Team honors for their part in the Eagles' semifinal run in the tournament. Georgia Southern's first tournament appearance since 2006 saw the Eagles pull an upset over UNCG in the first round, 2-1, before exiting the postseason against College of Charleston, 4-2.
Oland, a native of Evans, Ga., scored the game-winning goal against UNCG in the 85th minute. The goal was her fourth of the season and catapulted the Eagles into the semifinals for the first time since 2006.
Originally from Albuquerque, N.M., Merson led the GSU defense to four shutouts on the year and finished postseason play with 11 total saves. The Eagle netminder made five saves in the upset victory over UNCG and an additional six against College of Charleston.
