BY THE NUMBERS - LADY EAGLE BASKETBALL
STATESBORO, Ga. - "By the Numbers" spotlights a Georgia Southern Athletics team each week with statistics, rankings and other interesting items of note during our Eagles' seasons. The Lady Eagle Basketball team is the featured squad this week.
3: All three assistant coaches are graduates of Georgia Southern. Regina Days-Bryan played for the Lady Eagles from 1984-1988 and is in her 15th year on the coaching staff. Mary Perry Evans was a dual-sport student-athlete at Georgia Southern, playing for Coach Cram and the Lady Eagles from 1995-1999; Evans serves in her fifth year on the GSU coaching staff. Former Lady Eagle Amy Krach, who played for Coach Cram from 1997-2000, ranks eighth in career blocks with 59. Krach returned to the program as an assistant coach at the start of the 2010 season.
10: The Georgia Southern Women's basketball team is led by a handful of upperclassman for the 2011-2012 season, but the Lady Eagles are building a foundation of success, supported by 10 underclassmen.
16: Lady Eagle Head Basketball Coach Rusty Cram is in his 16th season at the helm of the Georgia Southern Women's Basketball program. Cram is not only the longest tenured coach in Eagle Athletics history, he also stands as the winngest head coach in Georgia Southern history, compiling 232 wins to date.
26: Georgia Southern looks to record its 26th winning season this year, a total which includes nine seasons with 20 or more wins.
74.5: During the Lady Eagles' 2010-2011 season, Georgia Southern connected on 491 of 659 free throws, good enough for a 74.5 percent, GSU's second highest percentage in program history.
192: Scoring 192 three-point baskets, the 2010-2011 Georgia Southern team broke the previous single-season record for most three-pointers (165 in 2006-07). The Lady Eagles' 35.7 three-point field goal percentage was good enough to rank 26th nationally and was second on the program's all-time single-season chart.
274: The Lady Eagles boast 274 wins on their home court in Hanner Fieldhouse since the program's inaugural varsity season in 1974-75. Georgia Southern's home winning percentage is 66.9 with the 274 victories balanced against only 118 losses.
521: Junior Meredyth Frye tallied her 500th career point earlier this season in the Lady Eagles' win over Mercer. Fyre's current total of 549 points leads all active Lady Eagles.
600: A program anchored by a winning tradition, Georgia Southern Women's Basketball holds three regular season titles, two tournament championships and during the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Eagles captured the program's 600th win with a victory over Western Carolina.
1,400: When Georgia Southern returns home to Statesboro on Sunday, the Lady Eagles will have logged more than 1,400 miles on this eight-day road trip, which included stays in Tuscaloosa, Ala., New Orleans, La., and Hattiesburg, Miss.
