Volleyball Hits the Road For North Carolina

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Volleyball team (12-10, 4-2) hits the road for North Carolina this weekend and will face UNC Greensboro and Elon. The Eagles finished a three-game homestand with a 2-1 record and will face UNCG Saturday at 7 p.m. and Elon on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Behind an 11-kill performance by Enjoli Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.), GSU rebounded from their first home loss since August 26th with a 3-0 victory over Davidson to cap their three-game homestand. Johnson posted a season-high 11 kills in just 18 attempts while committing just one error in the 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 victory over the Wildcats. The defense held Davidson to a hitting percentage of .111 and held the Wildcats below .100 in the first two sets.
GSU is led on offense by Bethany Sanford's (Avondale, Ariz.) 238 kills and 3.22 kills per set. Meredith Paskert (Brecksville, Ohio) has come on strong of late and leads the team with 64 kills in Southern Conference play. Hannah Nelson (Norcross, Ga.) is right on her heels with three kills per set average.
The Eagles' defense ranks third in the ScCon with 15.97 digs per set. GSU has improved that number in conference play and is averaging nearly 17 a set against SoCon opponents. Lauren LaRocque (Frisco, Texas) leads the team with 314 digs and a 3.97 digs per set average.
The Spartans are one of the best serving teams in the conference and are off to a 10-12, 2-4 record. UNCG ranks fourth in the league with a 1.43 service ace per set average. They have tallied 113 aces this season and are led behind the stripe by Kellie Orewiler's 31 service aces.
Elon is also 2-4 in conference play and are 13-8 overall this season. Caroline Lemke leads the team on offense with 220 kills and a 2.93 kills per set average. Ali Deatsch leads the team on defense with 356 digs.
