BY THE NUMBERS -- WOMEN'S SOCCER
STATESBORO, Ga. - "By the Numbers" will spotlight a Georgia Southern Athletics team each week with statistics, rankings and other interesting items of note during our Eagles' seasons. Women's Soccer is the featured team this week.
1: Sophomore Goalkeeper Katie Merson ranks first in the Southern Conference in shutouts per game, posting 3 shutouts in 10 games for a 0.30 percentage.
2: The Eagles recorded back-to-back conference match wins against Western Carolina and Appalachian State.
3: Georgia Southern is tied for third in the SoCon rankings with four shutouts in 2011.
3: Undefeated in three straight games, Women's Soccer has posted victories over opponents Appalachian State and Western Carolina and picked up a draw against Elon University.
5: Forwards sophomore Alex Murphy and junior Courtney Collins have each scored five goals this season.
7: With seven points in the SoCon race, Georgia Southern is tied with The Citadel, its next opponent, for a spot in the tournament.
8: Sara Oland, a senior forward, is tied for eighth in the SoCon assists standings.
11+: The Eagle roster features student-athletes from 11 different states and one who hails from England.
53: Three seniors, Candace Marshall, Sara Oland and Kyrstin Smith will be honored on Sunday, October 16th, prior to the last match of the regular season and 53rd contest at Eagle Field.
106: Merson's 7 saves against Appalachian State brings her career total to 106, which ranks 8th overall in program history.
The Women's Soccer team plays next at The Citadel at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 13th, in a key SoCon match and return to Eagle Field on Sunday, October 16th, for Senior Day and a 2 p.m. contest against College of Charleston.
