Eagles To Host Georgia State and Charleston Southern This Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women's Soccer Team returns home for a pair of weekend matches, taking on Georgia State on Friday (September 3) at 4 p.m. before welcoming Charleston Southern to Eagle Field on Sunday (Sept. 5) at 2 p.m.
The Eagles enter the weekend with a 1-1-0 record after defeating USC Upstate 3-0 in Spartanburg, S.C., on Saturday (August 28). Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) and Alex Murphy (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored goals for the Eagles in the win, with Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.) earning an assist.
Georgia State enters the contest with a 2-0-0 record, winning a pair of double-overtime matches to start the season, including a 1-0 win over Mercer. Sarah Bennett leads the Panthers with a pair of goals, while Jewel Evans and Kaila Mueke have each scored once.
The Eagles and Panthers have squared off 15 times on the pitch, with Georgia State holding an 8-5-2 edge in the series. Georgia Southern won the first match of the series, taking a 3-1 victory in 1994.
Charleston Southern is 3-1-0 on the season and will be coming off eight days of rest. The Buccaneers' last match was on Aug. 29, a 3-2 win over Jacksonville. Charleston Southern opened the season with a 3-0 victory at USC Upstate.
Marky Boyce has led the charge offensively, scoring seven goals on 20 shots. The senior has two multi-goals games, scoring all three goals in a 3-2 win over Jacksonville and two goals against USC Upstate.
Georgia Southern holds a slim 7-6 advantage in the all-time series with Charleston Southern, including a six-game winning streak between 1997 and 2003. The teams first faced each other in 1993, playing twice with Charleston Southern taking both matches.
On Friday, the first 50 fans into the game will receive a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A, and fans will be able to enjoy water slides, courtesy of Party Harbor.
