Iduate Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern senior shortstop Nina Iduate was named today (May 6) to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 first team for softball. Iduate, who possesses a 3.65 cumulative grade point average in mathematics, will advance to the national ballot next week. The university team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and will be comprised of members from the first teams of the eight districts. Iduate was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete last season and earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 second team honors in 2008.
Selected as the Southern Conference Player of the Week this past week, Iduate went 7-for-10, including a 5-for-5 outing in game two, as Georgia Southern completed a three-game sweep of Elon. She tallied a double, three RBIs and scored four runs. Georgia Southern's leadoff hitter, she has a team-best .456 batting average, ranked ninth nationally, with a team-high 77 hits this season to go along with a .925 fielding percentage. She has started in 49 games this year and all but nine games over the past three seasons.
Iduate was one of 30 candidates for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, a national award honoring notable achievements in four areas of excellence - classroom, character, community and competition. A member of the SoCon All-Academic team, the Norcross, Ga., native has been named to the Georgia Southern Dean's List for four semesters (3.5 GPA or above) and to the President's List (perfect 4.0 GPA) for fall 2009.
