STATESBORO, Ga. - There's just one "practice" left as the Georgia Southern football team will play its 2010 Blue-White Spring Game, presented by Franklin Toyota, at 1 p.m. at Paulson Stadium this Saturday (April 17).
The Eagles had their final workout for this spring on the banks of "Beautiful Eagle Creek," Thursday, going through drills, skelly and offense vs. defense without contact. Even though the squad was not in full pads, practice was far from a walk-through and Coach Jeff Monken and his coaching staff didn't let the intensity slip.
Monken's expectations for the scrimmage combine his desire to see the Eagles dial it up a notch Saturday while hoping they enjoy the experience in Paulson Stadium.
"I hope to see the guys compete and play hard, run around and have a good time and have fun," said first-year Georgia Southern Coach Jeff Monken about the spring game. "Hopefully, there will be some good defensive plays and some good offensive plays. I hope to see some plays off of both sides."
Both the offense and the defense clicked through their plays and fronts today, preparing for the game day simulation. The Blue and White rosters were set with the number-one offense paired with the number-two defense and number-one defense and number-two offense on the same team. Monken reminded the Eagles that they had to know their assignments and that the key to success is in carrying the information learned from meetings and film sessions onto the field.
"We work on the option plays more than anything, so I hope we'll get some knowledge out of those plays," Monken said. "I'd like for it to be as game-like as possible and get as many guys some significant reps since it is the last day of spring ball. I'd like to see our offense get some plays, get some confidence, I'd like to see our defense stop our offense, get them off the field and get some confidence. The Eagles are going to win on Saturday, that's what is important."
