Eagles Travel to Western Carolina and Appalachian State

STATESBORO, Ga. – Coming off a 2-1 win at Elon on Sunday, the Georgia Southern Women's Soccer team will look to keep momentum rolling with a pair of Southern Conference matchups on the road this weekend. The Eagles will face Western Carolina first on Friday, October 8 at 6 p.m. before heading east to Appalachian State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. matchup, closing out this four-game road trip.
Georgia Southern enters the weekend with a 5-6-0, 2-2-0 SoCon record. Sophomore Morgan Springer (Mandeville, La.) scored her first goal of the season at Elon, coming through with the game-winner lifting the Eagles past the Phoenix, 2-1. Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) leads the team with seven goals on the season and ranks second in the league in goals scored.
Goalkeepers Missy Meyer (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Katie Merson (Albuquerque, N.M.) have combined to make 47 saves on the year, led by Merson with 34.
Georgia Southern and Western Carolina will meet for the 14th time on Friday with the Catamounts holding an 8-3-2 all-time series advantage. WCU (3-7-2, 0-3-1 SoCon) enters weekend competition led by Christine Kaznowski with four goals on the season, while goalkeeper Caitlin Williams has recorded 70 saves in 12 games.
On Sunday, conference foes Appalachian State and Georgia Southern will face off for the 23rd time on the pitch. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 12-9-1, but look to snap a seven-match win streak the Mountaineers hold over Georgia Southern.
Appalachian State (3-5-3, 0-2-2 SoCon) is led by Hannah Coad with two goals on the season, while five others have scored one goal this season. Carolina Clarke, the primary goalkeeper, has registered 53 saves on the season, but combined with Jordan Hatton, the two have recorded 59 saves on the season.
