Jeschelnik and Van Dyke Named SoCon Players of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference office announced today (October 25) the Players of the Week for the week of October 18 and Georgia Southern received two of the three awards for the second time this season. Nicole Jeschelnik earned Freshman of the Week status, while Kate Van Dyke was named the Offensive Player of the Week.
Jeschelnik led the Eagles over Appalachian State with 16 kills to close out the three-match road swing on Sunday. The Ladera Ranch, Calif., native hit .297 for the match and added two block assists. Against Davidson, the outside hitter posted nine kills, four digs and one block assist. At Western Carolina, she hit .308 for five kills and one error on 13 attempts.
For the second time in as many weeks, a Georgia Southern player received the Offensive Player of the Week honor. Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) earned the honor last week, while Van Dyke received the accolade this week for her performance over the weekend. The sophomore setter posted two double-doubles, helping the Eagles to a perfect 3-0 record. The Shawnee, Kan., native collected 121 assists (11.00 assists per set) while also averaging 2.73 digs per set. She hit .526 in the three matches and had 12 kills.
Against the Catamounts, Van Dyke recorded 46 assists and 11 digs. For her second double-double of the weekend, she posted 48 assists and 14 digs at Appalachian State. She tallied three kills each at Davidson and Western Carolina and six at Appalachian State. The sophomore hit .667 against the Mountaineers with six kills on nine swings and no errors. She also added two service aces.
