Women's Soccer Plays Host to Three Games at Eagle Field

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer team begins a three-game homestand Friday, October 22nd welcoming Chattanooga to Eagle Field at 4 p.m. The Eagles will then face Samford (Oct. 24, 2 p.m.) and Davidson (Oct. 28, 4 p.m.) to close out the regular season.
Georgia Southern (5-10-0, 2-6-0) looks to rebound from a 2-0 loss at College of Charleston. Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) owns a team-best eight goals and 19 shots on goal. Goalkeepers Katie Merson (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Missy Meyer (Alpharetta, Ga.) have combined to make 64 saves on the season, with Merson making 51 saves in 15 starts.
Chattanooga (3-11-2, 1-5-2) closed out a three-game homestand playing two double-overtime draws against Wofford and Western Carolina before dropping a 3-1 decision to Appalachian State. Leading the team with six goals is Donna-Kay Henry. Primary goalkeeper Taylor Mangrum leads the league and team in saves with 107 on the season. Combined with Taylor Davidson’s 28 saves, the pair has accumulated 136 saves.
Samford enters weekend competition tied for second in the league with a 10-5-1 overall record and 6-2-0 SoCon ledger. The Bulldogs are winners of the last six games including two overtime thrillers and are led in goals by Trine Taule and Sarah Wilkinson, each with five on the season. Goalkeeper Alyssa Whitehead has played all 1480 minutes in goal, tallying 68 saves, while allowing 13 goals.
Subway will be the game day sponsor of Friday’s match against Chattanooga and the first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free sandwich. In addition to Junior Eagle Club Day on Sunday, senior Jenny Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) will be recognized before the match for Senior Day.
