BATON ROUGE, La. - The Georgia Southern Golf concludes its fall campaign this week as the Eagles compete in a 14-team field at the second-annual David Toms Intercollegiate. The event will be held October 18-19th at the par-72 6,849 yard Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
"We are obviously looking to go down there and come back with a good finish to end the fall season," stated Head Coach Larry Mays. "We have not played up to our potential and need a strong showing to give us some confidence going into the off-season. We are working hard these couple of days between tournaments to get back to basics and focus on the correct things. Hopefully, with some hard work, we can get the job done in Baton Rouge."
After capturing the team title in the inaugural David Toms Intercollegiate a year ago, the LSU golf team will play host to a strong field that includes four teams ranked in the latest Golfstat 'Top 50' rankings. The 14-team field includes UAB, Arkansas, Georgia Southern, Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, North Florida, Ole Miss, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana and South Alabama.
Georgia Southern will be paired with Mississippi State and North Florida for the first and second rounds on day one of the two-day, 54-hole championship. The Eagles will begin first round of play with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. central time (CT). The final round will take place on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
The Eagles will travel with a different five-man line-up for the fourth time this season. Making the trip will be Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.), Matt Deal (Statesboro, Ga.), Lewis Gruber (Tallahassee, Fla.), Will Evans (McDonough, Ga.) and Thomas Sharkey (Helensburgh, Scotland).
