Volleyball Welcomes Chattanooga

STATESBORO, Ga. – After a brief break from Southern Conference play, the Georgia Southern Volleyball team returns to league play welcoming Chattanooga Saturday, October 2. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Georgia Southern enters the conference matchup carrying an 11-6 overall record and 2-0 league ledger. The Eagles are coming off a 3-0 sweep over non-conference foe South Carolina State on September 28. Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) leads the offense with a 3.67 kills per set average. Sophomore setter Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) carries the offense with a 10.36 assists per set average on the season, while junior Ashley Roe (Campbell, Calif.) leads the defense with a 3.86 digs per set average.
Chattanooga (4-13, 0-2) is paced by Courtney Barnes with a 2.40 kills per set average. Tess Kosycarz and Bailee Chastain lead the team with 8.09 assists per set and 6.27 assists per set, respectively. Chastain and Jennifer Kuroski pace the defense with 1.94 digs per set and 1.84 digs per set averages, respectively.
Chattanooga leads the all-time series 23-16 in a rivalry that dates back to 1992.
Saturday will feature the first Chalk Talk of the season with Head Coach Chad Callihan. All season ticket holders are welcome to join the event and listen to Callihan break down strategies before the match. The Chalk Talk begins at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. The season-long “Win a Wii” courtesy of SpringHill Suites promotion continues on Saturday night. All fans can enter the raffle to win a Nintendo Wii, which will be given away on November 9 during halftime of the last home contest. A sign-up booth will be set-up on the concourse of Hanner Fieldhouse.
In addition, Saturday's match has been selected as Bulloch County Education Night and all Bulloch County school teachers and students will receive free admission into the match by stating their school at the ticket window. All Junior Eagle Club members also receive free admission into the match upon presentation of their membership card.
