Women's Soccer Falls in Conference Opener Against Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. - The Georgia Southern women's soccer team (0-8, 0-1) falls in conference opener against Appalachian State (4-4, 1-0) 3-0.
Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) returned in net for the Eagles and added six saves to her career mark.
The Mountaineers notched an early goal in the third minute. Caroline Lowe placed a shot over the goalkeeper's head for her first goal of the season.
The Georgia Southern defense responded to the early goal and kept Appalachian State scoreless for the remainder of the half. Santos made a pair of saves to help the cause in the eighth and 12th minutes, and the Eagles' defense blocked a shot attempt in the 38th minute.
After a corner kick by the Mountaineers in the 20th minute, Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) recorded a shot but missed to the right of the net.
Georgia Southern came out attacking in the second half. Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.) took a corner kick in the 65th minute, and Holly Dyer (Auburn, Ga.) almost tied the match with her first shot on goal.
Appalachian State retook control of the ball and added a second goal in the 74th minute. Katy Dodd launched a shot from 18 yards out and placed it in the net for her second goal of the season.
The Eagles' defense blocked another shot attempt in the 76th minute, but Dodd was able to add her second goal of the match in the 80th minute. Dodd scored on a cross pass from Jennifer MacNeill.
The Eagles continue conference play Sunday with a 2 p.m. match at Western Carolina.
