Women's Soccer Opens Home Slate Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's soccer team (0-6-0) opens the home portion of their season Friday with a match against Mercer (2-3-1). The Eagles' first home match of the season is set for 4 p.m. at Eagle Field.
Georgia Southern was edged by Georgia State in a close 1-0 match last time out. Missy Meyer (Alpharetta, Ga.) set a new career high with nine saves in her third start of the season. Meyer has recorded 22 saves in her four appearances this season.
Jenny Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) and Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) are tied for the team lead in shots. Kyrstin Smith (Acworth, Ga.) is right behind them with six shots, three of which were on target.
Mercer is coming into the match after dropping their conference opener to Kennesaw State (Sep 12) but have played well at times this year and forced a 1-1 tie with #16 Georgia earlier.
The Bears are led on offense by Olivia Tucker and Sara Elliot. Tucker paces the team in shots (17) and shots on goal (11). Elliot leads the team in goals scored and has recorded eight shots on goal.
The Eagles' first home match of the season is set for 4 p.m. at Eagle Field inside the Erk Russell Athletic Park.
