Drawing on his coaching and administrative experience at several institutions following his playing career, Pershin Williams joined the Georgia Southern coaching staff for the 2009-10 season and is in his third year with the Eagles. Williams came to Statesboro following a stint at Lafayette University where he served as assistant coach.
Williams' connections to Lafayette coaching alumni began when he was a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech, working with Leopards coaching alumni Pete Schwethelm and John O'Connor. He continued his coaching education on the basketball staff of the United States Merchant Marine under head coach John Krikorian another former Lafayette assistant coach. Williams spent the 2008-2009 season at Lafayette College.
"Coach Williams demonstrates the qualities we were looking for as both a coach and a person," said Young. "He can really help our program, he's young and not that far removed from his playing days. I think he will be really good at building relationships with our players and mentoring them."
A Columbus, Ga., native, Williams played for three years at Columbus State where he helped the Cougars achieve a 27-5 record. In his junior season, he earned a top national ranking at point guard before transferring to the University of North Florida. Williams set the Osprey single-season records for assists (161) and steals (69).
A 2005 graduate of the University of North Florida with a degree in Education of Sports Leadership, Williams is continuing to pursue his master's in Sport Administration from Georgia State.
In 2011, Williams married Liza C. Williams. The couple resides in Statesboro.
