Blondell Earns SoCon Men's Golfer of the Month Accolades

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? For the second time this season, the Georgia Southern men’s golf team has received the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the month honors. As announced by the conference office, sophomore Logan Blondell earned the accolade for his achievements during the month of March.
“I’m extremely proud of Logan [Blondell] for having such a good month and year,” stated head coach Larry Mays. “He’s led the team and SoCon throughout the year and we are looking for him to be a leader for us next weekend at the Southern Conference Tournament.”
In the two tournaments the golf team competed in during the month, Blondell took a first place finish and a 20th place tie. The Lakeland, Fla. native claimed his second individual title of the season at the Kaua’i College Cup in Hawai’i where he shot a career low for 54 holes, 8-under 208. The Eagle fired an opening round 2-under par 70, only to be followed with consecutive 3-under par 69s. Blondell led Georgia Southern to a first place tie in the tournament, as the team shot an aggregated total 860.
Competing on his home course, Blondell tied for 20th place at the Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational, alongside three nationally ranked competitors. He shot a 2-over par 218 for the tournament to lead Georgia Southern to a sixth place finish among 18 nationally ranked teams on the championship style Forest Heights Country Club golf course.
For the month, the sophomore Eagle played six rounds, averaging 71.0 strokes. Blondell leads the team this season with a 72.54 stroke average and is second behind Derek Rende of Chattanooga (72.43 stroke average) in the conference standings.
The player of the month is selected by a vote of the men’s golf conference sports information directors.
The Eagles return to action April 19-21 at the Southern Conference Tournament in Florence, S.C.
