Track & Field to Host GSU Invitational Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern track & field team will host the GSU Invitational at Eagle Field Saturday.

The meet will feature 12 teams from across the southeast including Savannah State, Savannah College of Art and Design, Mercer, Claflin, South Carolina State, South Carlina Beaufort, the Citadel, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Fort Valley State, Albany State and Valdosta State.

The Eagles are coming off of two solid performances in their first two outdoor events of the season. Georgia Southern finished second in the Bulldog Relays behind three first place finishes.

Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.) got the Eagles started off on the right foot with a first place finish in the long jump. Anthony pulled away from the competition with a mark of 5.88 meters. Anthony qualified for the 100 meter dash finals on Saturday, with a time of 12.16 and came in ninth in the finals with a time of 12.22. The Manchester native also finished seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.86.

Anthony was named SoCon Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Shamrock Invitational last weekend.

The GSU Invitational gets underway at 9 a.m. with the 10,000 meter run.
