Track & Field Finishes Second in the Bulldog Relays

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern Track & Field got its outdoor season underway with a second place finish in the Bulldog Relays Saturday.

Shaunta Hamilton (Macon, Ga.) and Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.) finished one, two in the long jump. Hamilton won the second event of the day for the Eagles with a jump of 5.62 meters. Anthony finished just behind her with a mark of 5.51 meters. The Mancherster native also got things started for the Eagles with a fifth place finish in the first event of the day the 100 meter dash.

Georgia Southern swept the high jump finishing one, two and three. Melanie Trumbo (Lilburn, Ga.) came in first with a jump of 1.65 meters. Trumbo also finished fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 32.32 meters.

Jasmine Lightning (Dacula, Ga.) finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters and Alex Cassagnol (Augusta, Ga.) finished third with a jump of 1.55 meters.

Amanda Spivy (Pembroke, Ga.) won the third event of the day for the Eagles with a discus throw of 36.71 meters.

Laura Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) had a stellar day finishing second in the 1500 meters and was a member of Georgia Southern's second place 4x800 meter relay team. Fuller completed the 1500 with a time of 4:50.53 which ranks second all-time at Georgia Southern.

Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) came in third in the 5000 meter run Saturday with a time of 19:26.54.

Senior Kristin Olson (Senoia, Ga.) gave the Eagles another top-three finish coming in third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.51 and finished first in heat one. Olson also ran in the 100 meter hurdles finishing with a time of 16.81.

Georgia Southern had a solid day in the relay events finishing in the top five in all four relays. The Eagles finished fifth and less than a second behind the fourth place team Georgia State in the 4x100 meter relay.

Georgia Southern followed the 4x100 relay with a third place finish in the 4x200 with a time of 1:44.33.

The Eagles pulled in another second place finish in the 4x800 meter relay finishing less than a two seconds behind the winner Georgia State.

Freshman Sarah Herndon (Statesboro, Ga.) picked up two points for Georgia Southern with a seventh place finish in the shot put.
