Golf Wraps Up Season Opening Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? The Georgia Southern men's golf team wrapped up its season opening tournament Sunday (Feb. 15) at the 2009 Gator Invitational finishing in 13th place. The Eagles shot a 10-over 290 in the third round after Saturday's 289-293 on the Mark Bostick Golf Course for an 872. Senior Drew Lethem led the Eagles, finishing tied for 26th.
Host Florida outdistanced the field with an 824, taking first place, followed by Ole Miss with an 842. Central Florida came in third with an 846, Florida State took fourth at 847 and Duke rounded out the top five with an 848. Georgia Southern finished five behind Wake Forest and seven in front of UAB.
Lethem carded a 71-71-73 ? 215 to finish tied for 26th and lead Georgia Southern. Sophomore Joe Monte followed Lethem, tied for 50th with a 72-74-72 ? 218.
Logan Blondell finished the top three for the Eagles, posting even 3-over par 73s for a total 219 on the course. To finish out the Eagles' lineup, Ryan Zabroske and Jordan Johnstun tied for 68th. Zabroske completed a 79-75-72 ? 226, while Johnstun turned in a 73-77-76 ? 226.
The Eagles are back in action next weekend (Feb. 22-24) when they travel to the John Hayt Invitational hosted by North Florida.
