Eagles Close Out Road Swing at Chattanooga

STATESBORO, GA – The Georgia Southern volleyball team closes out a six-match road swing facing University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in a Southern Conference match-up Saturday, October 3. First serve between the conference foes is slated for 2 p.m. in Maclellan Gym in Chattanooga.
The Eagles and Lady Mocs will meet for the 39th time in program history on Saturday as Chattanooga leads the all-time series 23-15. In the last match-up, UT swept GS in a conference contest in Chattanooga.
Georgia Southern enters the match standing at 10-6 overall and 1-1 in SoCon play having opened its conference slate this past weekend. The Eagles downed Wofford, 3-1, to start the conference schedule with a win, but suffered a loss, 1-3, to Furman the following day. GS will look to rebound from the loss against a 9-6, 1-2 Lady Mocs team who enter Saturday's contest coming off a 3-0 defeat at Samford.
For the season, sophomore outside hitter Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) paces the Eagles with 215 kills on a .229 attack percentage; Georgia Southern leads the league in kills per set, averaging 12.80. Freshman Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) leads the team with 626 assists to rank second in the conference, while senior Cristin Haines holds the team lead in digs with 205.
Chattanooga leads the Southern Conference with 17.67 digs per set led by freshman libero Paulo Passmore who has recorded 337 digs and 5.81 digs per set average. Courtney Barnes paces the team with 159 kills, hitting .352 for the season.
