Statesboro, Ga. - Georgia Southern rallied from a 4-1 deficit on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field to tie High Point with just seven minutes left in the match. The match headed to overtime, but ended up in a 4-4 tie.
Niki Lepper (Carmel, Ind.) scored the game tying goal in the 84th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Lepper and came after her first shot attempt was blocked. The ball rebounded to her and Lepper drilled it into the right side of the net for the goal.
"I was proud of our team today," said Head Coach Ashley Hart. "I felt like we showed alot of passion and heart. I was proud to see them fight back and score three goals to tie the game up."
The Lady Eagles are now 2-3-2 on the season.
Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) played the whole game in the net for the Lady Eagles and picked up three saves. Santos passed her former teammate Laura-Ashley Harris to become the all-time leader in saves for the Lady Eagles.
High Point scored the first two goals of the match for either team. The first goal came in the sixth minute of play, when Karra Damascus scored off a deflected shot from Sara Rager.
Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robbins, Ga.) scored the Lady Eagles first two goals of the match. Toussaint also moved past Katy Znosko and Rachel Tolliver for fifth place all-time on the Georgia Southern career goals scored list.
Elissa Botts (Grovetown, Ga.) scored the third goal of the game off a pass from Jenny Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) in the 75th minute of play.
Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.) picked up a shot on goal in overtime.
The Lady Eagles return to action on the 26th at Wofford. The match will be the first SoCon match of the season and is set to start at 6 pm.
