STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer team got off to a hot start with a win last week and look to continue their winning ways this weekend.
The Eagles are set to face Northern Iowa on Friday and Northern Illinois on Sunday.
“This tournament is going to be a good test for us. It is a long road trip and it will be good to see how we handle the travel as well as the tough competition. We will be playing two good teams in Northern Iowa and Northern Illinois. Our team is looking forward to the challenge and excited to play a team that we have not played before,” said Coach Hart.
Freshman, Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.) looks to continue her scoring streak this weekend. Kaimuloa has scored a goal in both the exhibition game against North Georgia and the win over Gardner-Webb.
The Northern Iowa Panthers (0-1) are led by first year head coach Jen Plante. The Panthers went 6-10-2 last season and are 0-1 this season after losing 5-0 to Minnesota.
Chelsie Hochstedler started the game for the Panthers and attempted their only two shots of the game.
This will be the first ever meeting between the Eagles and the Panthers.
The Northern Illinois Huskies (0-0) are the host team for the tournament and like Northern Iowa they have a new head coach in Carrie Barker.
The Huskies went 10-5-5 last season and are returning 10 starters from that team.
Northern Illinois defeated Oakland 2-1 in their only exhibition game.
Georgia Southern defeated the Huskies 5-0 in the last meeting of these two teams, which came back in 2000.
The Huskie track and Soccer Facility will be the host venue for the tournament.
