Spring Practice Report #5

STATESBORO, Ga. ? After 11 days off from practice, Georgia Southern returned to the football practice fields for the fifth of 15 practices this spring.
Second year head coach Chris Hatcher thought both the players and coaches enjoyed the time off, then came back ready to work.
“I think more mentally it was nice for them (the players) than anything, and even for the coaches. We've been hard at it since the end of the season with recruiting then we had a good off-season. As far as the mental aspect, as well as physically, I thought the break was really good. Our execution will pick back up, that's always to be expected when you come back off a layoff. You are a little rusty. Today we were but, again, we had a good attitude, worked hard and worked through it towards the end of practice,” said Hatcher. “I thought our intensity was good. We flew around the field. I thought as far as our attitude and flying around on defense it was a lot better today than the Friday before spring break.”
With less than three weeks remaining, this will be the only week of three scheduled practices. The final two weeks have four scheduled practice dates, including the Blue-White game which culminates spring drills.
The quarterback situation continues to be a topic of discussion. Redshirt-freshman Lee Chapple along with sophomores Kyle Collins and Billy Lowe are vying for the starting job. According to Hatcher, “No one has really stood out above everyone else. We got three good ones battling. We feel good about all three of them, but one has to make a move. Each day one of them does something a little better than the other, we have to find the one that is the most consistent.”
