Georgia Southern's second season begins Friday when the Eagles take on host UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Southern Conference Volleyball Tournament.
The Eagles (16-17, 9-9), the third seed from the South Division, will attempt to reach their first SoCon semifinals since 2004. GSU won it all in 2003 but hasn't advanced past the quarterfinals in their last three attempts.
Eagle Vision subscribers can watch the match live on GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com by clicking on the "audio/video" link on the left-sided menu. Live stats will also be available.
UNCG (22-9, 14-4) is the No. 2 seed out of the North.
With eight new players on the roster, including five freshmen, the Eagles have tallied their most overall and conference wins since 2005.
In the only meeting between the two schools this season, the Spartans swept the Eagles 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) Oct. 20 in Statesboro. UNCG has won seven straight matches entering the tournament, including a victory over North champion Samford Saturday, handing the Bulldogs just their second league loss of the year.
Freshman Bethany Sanford, who leads the team in kills (391) and kills per set (3.43), was held to seven kills in the first UNCG encounter, tied for her second-lowest total of the season. She leads all conference freshmen in kills average and is second overall.
