Samford Sweeps Volleyball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Samford extended their overall winning streak to five and home streak to 11 with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) victory over Georgia Southern Saturday night at the Pete Hanna Center.
The Bulldogs, currently atop the Southern Conference North Division standings, improves to 23-3 and 12-1 while the Eagles fall to 14-14 and 7-6.
Samford hit .261 as a team, below their season average of .293 coming in to the match, but held GSU to .111, including .065 in the final two sets.
The Bulldogs took control of the match by taking the first two sets with a pair of late runs to break open a tie game. They ended the first set with a 7-2 spurt and the second 6-2.
GSU received good production from two of their middles, sophomore Michelle Uzoh (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.). Small recorded a team-high nine kills and a .571 attack percentage and Uzoh recorded six and a .312 percentage. The pair had just one error and tallied two block assists apiece.
Ashley Adams led the Samford offense with a match-best 11 kills and added three block assists. Courtney Gay totaled 10 digs.
The Eagles return to the court Sunday with a match at Chattanooga. It is set to begin at 2 p.m.
