Statesboro, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer team lost to Western Carolina 2-1 Friday afternoon at Eagle Field.
“I think we are still struggling a little bit with some inconsistencies,” said Head Coach Ashley Hart. “We came out a little bit flat and I thought we played a much better second half. We have to be consistent and play for a full 90 minutes.”
Senior Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) scored her 11th goal of the season in the 69th minute of the match. Michelle Berard (Kennesaw, Ga.) picked up the assist by passing the ball from the left side of the net to Toussaint who was on the other side of the box. Toussaint is now tied with Katy Znosko and Tara Chaisson for eighth place all-time in goals scored in a single season.
“Ashley is a great player for us. She is always a threat up top. Our team can score goals and we have to do a better job of keeping things out of the net. I am proud of Ashley and what she has done for us,” said Coach Hart.
Western Carolina led at halftime with a score of 1-0. Kayla Beauduy scored off of a Bri Cunningham pass in the 22nd minute of play.
The Catamounts went up 2-0 in the 63rd minute when Shanna Schmoker scored on another Bri Cunningham pass.
Caitlin Williams and the Western Carolina defense held the Eagles without a shot on goal in the first half of play.
Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) made six saves in the match.
Caroline Rutledge (McDonough, Ga.) took the Eagles’ only other shot on goal.
The Lady Eagles return to action Sunday against Appalachian State at 2pm at Eagle Field.
