Eagle Golf to Compete at PING-Arizona Intercollegiate

STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern golf team returns to the links after a brief winter hiatus, competing at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 28-29) at the par-71, 6,900-yard Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
The 54-hole event will begin with 36 holes played on Monday (Jan. 28) with continuous play following the 10 a.m. (EST) shotgun start. The next day's final 18 is set to start at 10 a.m. (EST), Tuesday (Jan. 29).
A total 16 teams are scheduled to compete in the two-day tournament, each using a practice round on Sunday to prepare for the competition.
Two of the teams in the 16-team field ? Tennessee (23) and UCLA (4) ? finished the fall season ranked in the (Nov. 7) Golf Coaches Association of America GCAA/Nike Top-25 Coaches Poll. The remainder of the field includes: Brigham Young, California, UC-Irvine, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Long Beach State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, Texas, UNLV, Washington and host Arizona (two squads).
Representing the Eagles are Jordan Johnstun (Evans, Ga.), Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.), Spencer Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C.), Ryan Zabroske (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.).
“We played pretty well in the fall season,” said head coach Larry Mays. “I think they all came back rejuvenated after the Christmas break. So we're hoping that we can come out here with a good finish and start off the spring season well.”
This is Georgia Southern's first appearance in the Arizona tournament and one of the earliest tournaments the Eagles have scheduled throughout its history.
Last year, Arizona's Brian Prouty won the individual title shooting a 14-under 199. UNLV finished first carding a 23-under 829.
