Golf Finishes 9th at Shoal Creek Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? The Georgia Southern golf team finished in 9th place at the Shoal Creek Invitational, Tuesday afternoon (Sep. 25), carding a 27-over 891at the par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club.
Leading the Eagles was freshman Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) who finished tied for 10th place after shooting a 4-over 220. Teammates Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.) and Ryan LeFevre (Boca Raton, Fla.) both finished tied for 30th place with a 9-over 225. Ryan Zabroske's (Alpharetta, Ga.) 1-under 71 was the team low 18 of the day.
“We played pretty well the last couple rounds,” said head coach Larry Mays. “We were a little tight in the first round, but we looked more relaxed towards the end of the tournament and we ended up playing well. It gives us momentum going into the rest of the season.”
The Eagles finished one stroke better than Louisiana State, and additionally posted wins over Nevada and Vanderbilt.
Leading the field of 12 was Texas Tech with a 9-over 873, which was five strokes better than runner-up UAB. Individually, Texas Tech's Will Griffin tied for first with UAB's Brad Smith, both carding a 3-under 213.
The Eagles will have a week-and-a-half to prepare for the next tournament, Oct. 8-9, at the Jerry Pate National Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Old Overton Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
