STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern women’s soccer team will conclude its three-game homestand, Friday at Eagle Field, hosting the non-conference match-up versus Marshall at 4 p.m.
The Eagles (1-4-0, 1-0-0) picked up their first victory in the Southern Conference opener, Wednesday afternoon, blanking the Citadel 6-0. Marshall (2-4-0) comes to Statesboro for the first time, having dropped their last two games, falling to High Point (Sep. 14) by a 3-1 margin, and Kentucky (Sep. 16) in double overtime, 2-1.
The Eagles and Herd have only met twice, with the series tied 1-1. The last time the two teams played, Marshall edged the Eagles 1-0 at the Marshall Invitational in 2005. Georgia Southern’s 3-0 victory over Marshall came back in 1998 at the UAB Invitational.
Head coach Ashley Hart’s Eagles are led offensively by junior forward Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) with six points, including a pair of recent goals versus the Bulldogs (Sep. 19). Four of her teammates tally a goal, apiece: Holli Finneren (Lake Orion, Mich.), Heather Smith (Kingwood, Texas), Jenny Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) and Audrey Brown (Fort Worth, Texas).
The Thundering Herd is coached by Chris Kane and led on offense by Kassie Hollman with seven points, including a pair of goals and three assists. Molly Snead follows with two winners, while five other teammates tally one goal, apiece.
