STATESBORO, Ga. --- With the end of the season approaching, the Georgia Southern volleyball team prepares for the stretch run with their final home matches of the 2007 campaign.
The Eagles host Southern Conference leader the College of Charleston on Friday night at 7 p.m. before the home finale Sunday afternoon against The Citadel at 2 p.m.
The first 200 fans on Friday will receive free pizza from Papa John’s and the first 50 fans on Sunday will get a six-inch sandwich.
Sunday’s match will be Senior Day as Georgia Southern honors its three seniors - Gorana Bacic, Bailey Coleman, Flavia Pereira - who will be playing their last contest in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Bacic and Coleman were each on two 20-win teams in their careers and are the school’s top two active leaders in kills. Pereira set the school record for digs in a four-game match with 35 against Stetson on Aug. 25.
Georgia Southern has alternated wins and losses in its last 12 matches and is coming off of a 3-0 sweep at Western Carolina. Junior Bianca Julio (Curitiba, Brazil) continues to pace the team in kills per game (2.72) while freshman Michelle Uzoh (San Antonio, Texas) ranks seventh in the league in hitting percentage (.301).
Charleston (19-7, 13-2) has won eight of its last nine and 15 of its last 17 outings, including a sweep of GSU on Oct. 5. The Citadel (5-26, 0-15), on the other hand, has dropped six in a row and reside in last place in the SoCon standings.
