STATESBORO, Ga. ? For the second time this season, Georgia Southern place kicker Jesse Hartley (Tallahassee, FL/Lincoln) was named Southern Conference ?Special Teams Player of the Week'. The league office announced the award on Monday (Oct. 29).
Hartley, who earned the SoCon and a national ?Player of the Week' honor earlier this month, converted two key field goals and an extra point during Georgia Southern's 21-17 Homecoming win over The Citadel.
The junior converted from 23 and 20 yards out, the team's only points through the first three quarters. He improved to 14-of-18 on field goals this year and 36-of-36 on extra points. Hartley's 14 FGs equal the fourth-highest single-season total in Georgia Southern history, and are the most in a regular season since Reed Haley recorded 15 during the 1993 season. Hartley needs three more to match Tim Foley's single-season record.
Overall Hartley is tied for fourth nationally averaging 1.8 field goals per game and 12th scoring 9.8 points per game.
The Eagles (6-2 overall, 3-2 SoCon) travel to Wofford this Saturday (Nov. 3) in a battle of nationally-ranked teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
