STATESBORO, Ga. - Quarterback Billy Lowe (Lakeland, FL/Lakeland) became the fourth Georgia Southern player named Southern Conference ?Freshman of the Week'. The league office announced the award Monday afternoon (Oct. 22).
The redshirt-freshman quarterback joins Zeke Rozier (Sept. 17), E.J. Webb (Sept. 24) and Chris Teal (Oct. 1) in receiving the weekly honor.
In his first extended action this year, Lowe completed 8-of-11 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown helping the Eagles defeat fifth-ranked Appalachian State 38-35 last Saturday (Oct. 20). With the win Georgia Southern (5-2 overall, 2-2 SoCon) re-entered the national polls in 22nd place (The Sports Network and FCS Coaches).
The Eagles return to SoCon action this Saturday (Oct. 27) facing 25th-ranked The Citadel. Kickoff for Georgia Southern's Homecoming game is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Paulson Stadium. The game will be televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS).
