Women's Soccer to Host Furman, Thursday

STATESBORO, Ga. ? TheGeorgia Southern women’s soccer team will return home to play host to Furman, Thursday afternoon at Eagle Field. The Southern Conference match-up is slated for 4 p.m. Shane’s Rib Shack will be on hand to sell food and drinks.
The Eagles (2-8-1, 1-2-1) are seeking to snap a two-game skid after falling toCharlestonand UNC Greensboro. The Paladins come to Statesboro with 9-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 SoCon records having recently defeated Appalachian State (Oct. 7) by a 4-3 score.
The two teams have met 20 times prior, with Furman leadingGeorgiaSouthern by a 12-8 advantage. The last time the two teams met, the Paladins defeated the Eagles in the Southern Conference semifinals, 2-0 (Nov. 3, 2006). GeorgiaSouthern’s last victory over the Paladins occurred in 1997 with a 1-0 decision.
Fourth-year head coach Ashley Hart’s squad is led on offense by junior Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) with eight points on four goals. Toussaint’s 2.9 shots per game ranks second in the conference. Audrey Brown (Fort Worth, Texas) follows with two goals and one assist, and defender Heather Smith (Kingwood, Texas) has one goal and a team-high two assists.
Head coach Andrew Burr’s Furman squad is led on offensive by Anna Betton with 10 goals and four assists. In addition to her goal tally, Betton’s 24 points marks the league’s best in those categories. Katie Tucker follows with six goals and three assists, while Gena Villari has a team-high seven assists on the year.
