Dr. Charles "Hal" Wilson, Jr. has served as Faculty Athletics Representative at Georgia Southern University since January 2026, serving as a liaison among the university president, academic community, and Georgia Southern Athletics. He represents the faculty perspective in NCAA and Sun Belt Conference governance, advises on academic integrity, compliance, and student-athlete well-being, and serves as a resource to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

A Professor of Coaching Education in the Waters College of Health Professions, Wilson joined Georgia Southern in 2014 and coordinates the M.S. in Kinesiology concentration in Coaching Education and the Coaching Minor. He also directs the university's Coaching Education Lab. The program was named a National Youth Sports Strategy Champion by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2023.

Wilson brings an extensive athletic background to the role. He was a student assistant with UNC Wilmington's 1997 men's basketball team, which won the first Division I regular-season conference championship in school history. He later served as a graduate assistant with the University of Tennessee men's basketball program, whose 2000 SEC championship season included a school record for wins and a Sweet 16 run. Tennessee returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2001.

Wilson went on to serve as a varsity head coach at three Georgia high schools, with all three programs reaching the state playoffs. He set school win records at two and led both to their first state playoff appearances. He earned multiple Coach of the Year honors and served as an assistant on Bulloch Academy's 2015 girls' basketball state championship team.

Wilson serves as Vice-Chair of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Research Committee and previously served on the board of the United States Center for Coaching Excellence. He has presented to organizations including USA Basketball, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and the International Coaches Academy. His honors include the NABC Award of Merit, Georgia Southern's Award of Excellence for Community Engagement, and the Waters College of Health Professions Senior Teaching and Service Awards.

Wilson earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from UNC Wilmington and a Master of Science in Sport Management and Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Sport Studies from the University of Tennessee. He lives in Statesboro and is the father of three.
