Michael Thomas was hired as a Graduate Assistant in Equipment Operations at the start of the 2024 football season.
In his current role he assists with football equipment, including daily practice set up, equipment distribution, laundry services, gameday setup and packing for away games. Michael also assists in equipment operations for the Softball team, Swim and Dive, and the Rifle Team.
Michael enrolled at Georgia Southern University in the spring of 2022, where he volunteered as a student equipment manager for the football team. He worked in equipment for the entirety of his undergraduate degree and graduated with his Bachelor’s in Business Administration in the Spring of 2024. He is currently enrolled in Georgia Southern’s MBA program and is projected to graduate in the Fall of 2025.
Before his time at Georgia Southern, Michael spent the 2021 football season as the offensive line coach for Risley Middle School in Brunswick Georgia.
After high school Michael enlisted in the military where he served 4 years as a Master-at-Arms for the United States Navy. He went to boot camp at RTC Great Lakes, graduated from A-School at Lackland Air Force Base, and then received orders to serve at the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion in Bangor, Washington. There he achieved the rank of Petty Officer Third Class and served as a squad leader where he was responsible for 30 sailors. Michael served from September of 2017 to September of 2021.
Michael graduated from Glynn Academy high school in 2017. He played football for four seasons there and started in the 5A state championship in 2015.
Michael is currently engaged to Savannah Lyons who is a Georgia Southern alumni and is attending Augusta University for her doctorate in physical therapy.
