Shane Meyer, a highly decorated placekicker for Coach Willie Fritz at Central Missouri, joined the Georgia Southern Football staff as Director of Football Operations in January 2014. A 2009 inductee into the Mules’ Hall of Fame, Meyer was a four-time All-conference selection from 1995-98 and earned All-America honors in 1997.
Meyer handles a number of administrative duties for the program including travel, scheduling of practice times, and overall organization of the program.
During his All-America season, Meyer kicked 18 field goals to set UCM’s single-season record and still holds the career mark with 49. When his career was complete, he ranked third in career PATs (107), consecutive field goals (eight) and career scoring with 254 career points, the most by a Mule kicker.
A native of O’Fallon, Missouri, Meyer served for the last four and a half years as the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach while teaching at Jefferson City High School in Missouri before joining the Eagles. He also coached at Villa Duchesne High School in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was the Youth Sports Coordinator, before reuniting with Coach Fritz at UCM in 2007.
Meyer spent the 2007-09 seasons as an assistant football coach and equipment manager at his alma mater, coaching the kickers, punters and long snappers while assisting the special teams coordinator.
After graduating from Central Missouri in 1999, Meyer joined the Mules’ Football program as a graduate assistant coach. An opportunity to play professionally put Meyer back on the field intermittently over the next three seasons with the Roanoke Steam and Norfolk Nighthawks in the Arena Football League 2. He returned to coaching, trading the football field for the hardwood, and accepted the position as Head Coach of the California (Missouri) Girls’ High School Basketball team in 2002. His Pinto squad finished third in the 2004 Missouri state playoffs.
Married to another UCM alum, Christine, the Meyers have two children, Trey and Leah.
