Alex Zettler, who has SEC coaching and playing experience, serves as the assistant safeties coach for Georgia Southern. He joined the staff in January of 2025 after spending one season coaching the Texas A&M football program.
Prior to arriving in Statesboro, Zettler spent the previous season at A&M as a defensive student coach, working primarily with the safeties and helping the Aggies to a 2024 Las Vegas bowl berth.
Zettler joined the Aggie coaching staff after lettering at Texas A&M at safety from 2021-2023, where he was also named Academic All-SEC. In 2019, he was named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year and was awarded the 12th Man Kickoff Brotherhood Impact Award in 2023. Zettler honed his craft while playing under Jimbo Fisher, Mike Elko, Jay Batemen (Texas A&M - Def. Coordinator), DJ Durkin (Auburn - Def. Coordinator), Maurice Linguist (Alabama - Def. Coordinator), Elijah Robinson (Syracuse - Def. Coordinator), Tyler Santucci (Baltimore Ravens - Linebackers) and Christian Parker (Philadelphia Eagles - Secondary). In 2020, Texas A&M ended the season ranked 4th nationally and in 2022, Zettler contributed to the Aggies’ #2 ranked passing defense.
He has extensive volunteer and charity experience most notably working with the Boys and Girls Club of Brazos Valley and as team leader for the Mission of Hope mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
The Texas-born native graduated from Brighton High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was a multi-sport athlete and was awarded Utah’s 2018 High School Athlete of the Year. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Master of Science both from Texas A&M University.
