Georgia Southern Letterwinners

Georgia Southern University's Athletic Department Letterwinner's Award Policy is in place to establish guidelines for the student-athletes whom have taken exemplary measures to achieve perseverance, commitment, dedication and unselfish attitude on and off the field. Georgia Southern will present the Letterwinner's Awards to those student-athletes designated as deserving of such by the respective head coach, with the approval of the Athletic Senior Staff. As long as a student-athlete fits within the guidelines below they will be awarded an Eagle head bust with subsequent annual recognition for the years they have participated at GS intercollegiate athletics. Each year has a designated award that will be presented to the student-athlete with recognition at ta team function. Award winners must meet the requirements and have been actively participating on a sports team to be considered for the GS Letterwinner's Award.

In order to receive the appropriate award, the student-athlete must:
Must appear in at least one regular non-exhibition contest
Maintain good academic standing that includes, but not limited to, all guidelines and protocols in place via Student-Athlete Services.
Have had no violations of the student-athlete handbook and/or Eagle Way Creed.
Have had no GS Code of Conduct violations pending, accused or adjudicated where they have been found guilty.
Maintained eligibility within the NCAA guidelines.
Removal from the team - either by the coach, the athletic department or one's self - before the end of the season, disqualifies one from consideration.

Awards presented are as such:
First varsity letter earned: Eagle Head Bust plate with year of award
Second varsity letter earned: Plate with year of award
Third varsity letter earned: Plate with year of award
Fourth varsity letter earned: Plate with year of award, blazer and lapel pin

* IF for some reason a student-athlete has violations of the above guidelines in receiving their award for a particular year, they can be eligible to receive the award the following year if they meet the above guidelines, however it must be noted they would no longer be considered for a four-year award to receive the blazer.

* If a student-athlete has a violation during their junior year as of 2017, their senior year they are no longer eligible for the four-year blazer, however, they will receive an Eagle Bust with that particular year.

** This policy excludes any redshirt year

The Georgia Southern University senior navy blazer has been designated as the varsity athlete award four-year letterwinner award.


RECOGNITION:
Each year, the four-year letterwinners will be presented their blazer at the end-of-the-year athletic department ceremony. The other letterwinners can be presented at each team's individual end-of-the-year dinner for their sport. Each list will be archived and maintained by the athletics communications office and put on GSEagles.com.

Each coach may by their own gift based on a different criteria for athletic achievement, however, this policy must be followed and abided by for letterwinner status.

POLICY FOR SUBMISSION:
At the end of the season, each head coach must submit their recommendations for the letterwinners to their sport supervisor for approval. The recommendations will be reviewed by the sports supervisor, student-athlete services, the compliance office, the SWA, and the athletic director to review any code of conduct/drug violations as well as their academic status. Once approval has been obtained, the ordering process can begin in regards to the specific award for the student-athlete.

This policy is from August 1, 2017, and the subsequent years. The Athletic Department understands there are instances where a previous letterwinners may request to be recognized or a current student-athlete that has qualified to be a letterwinner in their previous years requests their award.

Current Student-Athletes:
If a current student-athlete wishes to obtain their preceding years as a letterwinner, or appeal a non-letter determination from the current year, they must submit their request via http://gseagles.com/sb_output.aspx?form=72. The request will be reviewed by the senior staff, and if the criteria from previous years are met, they will be awarded their requested years' award(s).

Former Student-Athletes/Letterwinners:
If a former student-athlete who lettered during his/her time at Georgia Southern University, he/she may submit their name to be listed as a letterwinner via https://goo.gl/CAq9b6

Each request will go through a review process and if you have met the criteria outlined in the policy you will receive official notice from the Athletic Director.

It should be noted that actual awards will not be retroactively presented and the award process begins August 1, 2017.
