Eagles Sweep Mercer, 7-0, In Spring Opener Friday

Georgia Southern handles the Bears, faces Georgia Tech on Sunday
MACON, Ga. - Georgia Southern men's tennis finally opened up its 2026 Spring campaign, picking up a 7-0 victory over host Mercer on Wednesday afternoon in Macon, Ga.
After its first two scheduled matches of the Spring got postponed, the Eagles were able to get out on the courts and notch a win in its season opener. Mercer fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
Georgia Southern claimed the doubles point from the Bears as Willy Mirarchi and Albert Saar combined for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Matthew Mitchell and Edoardo Santoni claimed a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles then swept the singles matches, getting straight set singles wins from Saar at No. 2 singles, Santoni at No. 3 singles, Mirarchi at No. 4 singles and Albert Widell at No. 6 singles. Gregoire Delattre and Davis Taylor each collected third-set 10-point tiebreak wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to finish the sweep.
"Awesome to finally get our Spring season underway," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "I was proud of how our guys fought today, and their discipline to stick to the task at hand. We're excited to keep moving forward!"
