Team turns attention to Southern Miss on Oct. 9
HARRISONBURG, Va. — James Madison used two 100-yard rushers and used several big plays to pull away from Georgia Southern with a 35-10 win in Sun Belt Conference football action Saturday at Bridgeforth Stadium.
The Eagles (2-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) forced the Dukes into seven incompletions and kept them scoreless in the fourth quarter, but James Madison (3-1, 1-0) piled up 331 rushing yards and scored touchdowns on five straight possessions between the first and third quarters.
Quarterback JC French IV connected with Taylor Bradshaw for a 12-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to cap Georgia Southern's best drive of the day, a quick 75-yard march that included a 43-yard strike to Camden Brown, who finished with five catches for 111 yards. For Bradshaw, it was his first collegiate touchdowns catch and it marked the second straight game Brown had topped 100 yard receiving.
Kicker Tripp Bryant put the Eagles on the board in the second quarter with a 26-yard field goal, finishing off an 11-play, 68-yard drive.
On defense, linebacker Brendan Harrington led all tacklers with 13 stops, while Ayden Jackson and Brandon Tyson each added eight.
Punter Alex Smith provided steady field position with eight punts for a 43.6-yard average, including a long of 48.
The Eagles will return home to the friendly confines of Allen E. Paulson Stadium on Oct. 9 as they host Southern Miss in a nationally televised Thursday night game. Tickets can be purcahsed at GSEagles.com/Tickets.
