Bulls take a 5-2 match against the Eagles from Wallis

STATESBORO - USF spoiled the home opener for Georgia Southern men's tennis on Sunday afternoon, taking a 5-2 victory at the Wallis Tennis Center.

The Bulls improved to 5-2 on the young season with the win, while the Eagles fell to 3-4. Georgia Southern returns to action on Friday, February 14, hosting Jacksonville State in a 10 a.m. match at Wallis.

USF collected the doubles point from the Eagles with 6-4 wins at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Georgia Southern won the first sets in four of six singles matches, then tied the score at 1-1 with a 7-5, 6-4 win from Matthew Mitchell at No. 6 singles. After the Bulls won at No. 3 singles, Pierre Mouesca claimed a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to knot the match up at 2-all.

In singles, Ole Miss won the first sets in five of six singles matches, then clinched the victory with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

USF then finished off the match with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles and three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
