GAME PREVIEW: Southern Returns Home to Face Streaking Chants

Eagles looking to build off momentum of App State game

STATESBORO - After two games on the Georgia Southern football team returns home to face the streaking Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 6:03 p.m. and it will be carried on ESPN+. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Here's all you need to know about the game:

Of Note:
  • This will be the 12th football meeting between Southern and Coastal in a series that dates back to 2006. The Eagles lead the series 7-4 after winning 26-6 last year on the road. 
  • The Eagles are 3-1 all-time against the Chants at Allen E. Paulson Stadium, including a 38-28 win in 2023.
  • Perhaps the most memorable game in the series for Eagle fans came in 2007 when Jayson Foster, who will be calling the game for ESPN+, ran for 253 yards and a school-record six touchdowns in a 42-34 win at Brooks Stadium in Conway. 
  • Coastal quarterback Samari Collier played at Hutchinson (Kan.) CC the past two seasons with Eagle defensive linemen Devan Lowe and Kwon McGinney, leading them to the 2024 NJCAA national title.
  • Georgia Southern has a 221-52 record at Allen E. Paulson Stadium with the fourth-best winning percentage out of all currently used FBS stadiums. The Eagles are 27-7 all-time at Paulson Stadium when playing in front of 21,000 or more fans, including 3-0 this season.

10: Over the past four games, quarterback JC French IV has been responsible for 10 touchdowns against no turnovers. He has thrown for six touchdowns and rushed for four scores over that stretch.
9: Nine different players caught at least one pass in last year's 26-6 win at Coastal Carolina.
8: Eagle head coach Clay Helton has won six of the eight games played against Georgia Southern's two main rivals: App State and Georgia State. Helton is 3-1 against both teams in his four seasons.
7: After losing the time of possession battle in each of the first seven games, the Eagles have won it in each of the past two games.
6: Jayson Foster scored a school-record six rushing touchdowns in the 2007 win at Coastal Carolina. He will be in the booth Saturday calling the game for ESPN+.
5: Five different Georgia Southern players have at least one touchdown catch this season, led by Camden Brown who has a school-record nine.
4: Freshman Tripp Bryant kicked a career-high four field goals in the two-point win at App State last week.
3: Georgia Southern has won three of the four contests played against Coastal Carolina in Statesboro.
2: MJ Stroud recorded two sacks at App State to bring his season tally up to a team-high and career-high 5.5 in 2025.
1: Marcus Sanders Jr. recorded his first career 100-yard receiving game when he tallied 127 yards and a touchdown on six catches against App State.
