
Fourth Quarter Blitz Leads Georgia Southern To 41-24 Win Over Georgia State

Eagles capture the Georgia Grown Bowl and win third straight over the Panthers on Saturday
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern football outscored visiting Georgia State by a 21-0 margin in the fourth quarter to capture the Georgia Grown Bowl in a 41-24 victory, in front of 25,428 fans at Paulson Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Eagles improved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt with the victory, while Georgia State fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the league. Georgia Southern returns to action on Saturday, October 25, traveling to Arkansas State for a 7 p.m. ET showdown with the Red Wolves on ESPN+.
The fourth-largest crowd at Paulson saw a contest that featured six lead changes between the two teams through the first three quarters. The Eagles got an opening drive 38-yard field goal from Tripp Bryant to take an early 3-0 lead. Georgia State responded with a Cameran Brown 15-yard touchdown run to take a 7-3 lead into the end of the first quarter.
JC French delivered a 20-yard touchdown pass to Camden Brown to give the Eagles back the lead, 10-7, with 13:37 left in the second quarter. Georgia State then got a 31-yard field goal from Liam Rickman to tie things up at 10-all midway through the second quarter.
Georgia State got a five-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Ted Hurst with 46 seconds left to retake the lead, and the Eagles ended the half with a season-long 46-yard field goal by Bryant, making the score 17-13 GSU at the break.
In the second half, the Eagles stopped the Panthers on 4th and 1 from Georgia State's 43-yard line to get the ball back, then Georgia Southern cashed in on a four-yard touchdown run by French to make the score 20-17 for the home team. The Panthers retook the lead on a 10-play, 83-yard drive capped off by a Rashad Amos three-yard touchdown run to lead 24-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Weston Bryan had a one-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles in front for good. After a turnover on the next Georgia State drive, the Eagles marched right down the field, getting a 16-yard touchdown pass from French to Camden Brown to make the score 34-24.
It was Brown's second touchdown reception of the game and his eighth of the season, tying the Georgia Southern single season record of eight TD catches, originally set by Chris Johnson in the 2000 season.
The Eagles then clinched the win on a five-yard touchdown pass from French to Dalen Cobb, capping a 21-0 fourth quarter and a third straight win over the Panthers.
French finished the day 17-for-25 passing for 210 yards and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 178.2, while also adding a team-high 85 yards rushing on 12 carries and a touchdown. Cobb had seven catches for 43 yards and a touchdown, while Brandon Tyson and Brendan Harrington each had eight tackles to lead defensively.
Brown led Georgia State on the night by going 29-for-38 passing for 280 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a game-high 120 yards on the ground on 15 carries with a touchdown.
