Eagles Fare Well At ITA Championships In Oklahoma

Three Eagles compete, advance in qualifying action over the weekend against the nation's best

TULSA, Okla. - Three Georgia Southern men's tennis players competed in qualifying rounds for the 2024 ITA Men's Tennis Championships over the weekend.

Senior Dimitris Paliouras, junior Pierre Mouesca and junior Aaron James Williams took part in singles qualifying on Saturday and Sunday, competing against some of the nation's best players.

Play began on Saturday with Round of 128 qualifying matches and all three Eagles notched wins in their first action. Paliouras defeated Karim Al-Amin of Middle Tennessee, 6-4, 7-6, while Mouesca knocked off Harry Thursfield of Wake Forest, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Williams then defeated Elis Short of Princeton, 7-6, 6-1, to ensure all three advanced to the Round of 64.

Sunday morning, Williams advanced past Carlos Guerrero Alvarez of Dartmouth, 7-6, 7-6, to earn a spot in the Round of 32. Paliouras did the same, defeating Tiago Pires of Texas A&M, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Mouesca fell in his Round of 64 match to third-seeded Luke Casper of Texas A&M, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.

The two remaining Eagles also went up against seeded opponents in the Round of 32, falling on Sunday afternoon. Paliouras lost to 15th-seeded Jaden Weekes of Kentucky, 6-1, 7-5, while Williams lost to ninth-seeded Lucas Brown of Texas, 6-3, 6-2.

Georgia Southern returns to action in the Fall by traveling to Macon to take part in the Mercer Gridiron Classic on October 4-7.
